    Job Summary

    Responsible for supporting the supervision and coordination of the overall sports medicine program of Georgia Tech, and for ownership and oversight of assigned sport programs, to include but not limited to injury prevention, evaluation, management and treatment of athletic injuries, short and long-term rehabilitation of athletic injuries, education, and counseling of student-athletes. Responsible for athletic related health care administration in consultation with and under the supervision of the Associate Athletics Director of Sports Medicine, team physician(s) and other qualified medical personnel. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing employee performance and providing feedback, and making pay recommendations.

    This position will interact on a regular basis with: student-athletes, coaches, staff, external medical personnel.
    This position typically will advise and counsel: student-athletes, coaches.
    This position will supervise: assigned staff.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop, execute, and supervise programs and activities related to the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of athletic injuries and illnesses for assigned sport programs while abiding by the rules and regulations established by the Georgia Tech Athletics Association, its athletic conference affiliates, and National Collegiate Athletics Association rules and regulations.
    • Provide consistent coverage for practice and competitions, and ensure coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for home and away competitions.
    • Partner with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver high quality care to student-athletes.
    • Provide counseling and education to student-athletes, coaches, and parents dealing with athletic injuries.
    • Provide status reports of student-athlete injuries to leadership and coaching staff.
    • Support the compilation, input, organization, and maintenance of medical records for student-athletes. Maintain recordkeeping and documentation for assigned sport programs.
    • Lead scheduling and administration of student-athlete pre-participation physical exams.
    • Support leadership with management of athletic training room supplies and equipment, graduate assistants and student workers, and projects as assigned.
    • Maintain and execute, as needed, an emergency action plan for assigned sport program in partnership with team physicians, area emergency medical services, and local hospitals.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    Abilities
    Effectively assess and evaluate injuries and their severity; develop conditioning and rehabilitation programs and manage and treat injuries; use the full range of appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments and rehabilitation and exercise equipment to treat and prevent injuries; determine the appropriate referrals for athletes to other health care professionals; recognize life threatening situations and administer the appropriate emergency aid; fit braces and fabricate orthotics as needed.

    Knowledge
    General knowledge of the principles and practices of Athletic Training, Occupational Health and Safety Administration standards, maintaining medical records including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and following insurance procedures.

    Skills
    Advanced skills in decision making and problem solving, service, integrity, innovation, safety awareness, adaptability, cultural competence, influence, and the administration of a variety of assessment tools, treatment plans and equipment. Must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and to serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians and other healthcare professionals.

    Educational Requirements
    Master's Degree in Athletic Training or an educational program accredited by the National Athletic Trainers Association - Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Other Required Qualifications
    Certification from the Board for Athletic Trainers, CAATE, NTA or other accredited body for Athletic trainers

    Required Experience
    Five to six years of job related experience
