Southern Methodist University is a NCAA Division I institution and Atlantic Costal Conference member, located near the heart of Dallas. The Department of Athletics, at Southern Methodist University, is now accepting applications for three Certified Intern Athletic Trainer positions. Southern Methodist University aims to further develop young, professional athletic trainers personally and professionally, by providing experience in clinical practice, administrative duties, and so forth.
Duties:
The selected candidates will assist the Sport Medicine staff in the coordination of day-to-day operations for Division I athletics. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries/illnesses to student athletes. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: assisting in the daily health care of student athletes; recording and maintaining appropriate medical records for student athletes, providing support in the administrative management of the Sports Medicine department; and other miscellaneous job related duties deemed necessary by the Associate AD for Student Health and Well-being or Internship Director.
Position Assignments include:
1) Men’s & Women’s Swimming & Diving
- This position will primarily oversee all sports medicine aspects concerning SMU Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving. Other assignments may be assigned at the discretion of the Associate AD for Student Health and Well-Being or Internship Director.
- Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree. Previous experience with Division I Athletics.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in athletic training. BOC certification. Eligible for Texas State Licensure. Current CPR Certification (BLS from American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or equivalent). Strong and effective oral and written communication skills. Adaptable, with strong time management skills and attention to detail. Appropriate training with requirements of healthcare providers (OSHA, HIPAA, etc.). Experienced in medical documentation and electronic medical records. Ability to work well within a sports medicine team. Proven ethical behavior.
Stipend and Benefits:
Includes NATA membership renewal, Texas athletic training license, professional liability insurance, CPR/AED certification renewal, and $500 CEU allotment (CEU must be completed by December of 2024).
