Job Summary:
Eastern Washington University Department of Athletics is currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the position- Director of Sports Medicine, which oversees all aspects of health care services provided to EWU student-athletes. This position supervises athletic training services, while also overseeing the sports medicine administrative operations in conjunction with the independent medical director. Under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations and managing Head Team Physician, the Director provides guidance and leadership of all sports medicine services and plays a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of EWU ’s approximately 350 student-athletes, from 14 sports, in accordance with the NATA , NCAA , Big Sky Conference, and Eastern Washington University regulations.
This role requires a high level of competence in sports medicine practices, protocols and administration. Candidates must demonstrate the organizational and administrative abilities necessary to develop and coordinate a sports medicine program; establish program priorities; provide staff management with a knowledge of human resources practices; provide work direction, assist in scheduling, and training for other Athletic Trainers, including student trainers; promote teamwork to optimize work efficiencies and effectiveness with teams, Athletic Trainers and external medical partners; develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies; develop and monitor program budget; ensure rehabilitation objectives are achieved and medical records are secured as confidential, accurate, and complete; and ensure accurate maintenance of insurance records and billings.
The ideal candidate will possess effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to multi-task, be resourceful and flexible; organizational skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff and external constituents; and the ability to work under pressure, make decisions and meet deadlines.

The salary for this position is $65,000 (minimum) up to $69,000. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor ’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related discipline
- Master ’s degree in athletic training or related discipline
- Five (5) years of demonstrated full-time professional experience working in a collegiate sports medicine setting, and must include one (1) or more years of supervisory and administrative responsibility.
- Obtain a Washington State Athletic Trainer License in two months from hire date.
- BOC Certified
- Adult CPR , First Aid and AED certification required.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules.
- Valid driver ’s license by time of hire.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a diverse student-athlete population.
- Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience that demonstrates the ability to effectively lead and manage a diverse group of health care professionals.
- Experience providing and coordinating sports medicine health care services at the NCAA Division I level with both men ’s and women ’s sports.
- Demonstrated work experience with evidence of strong organizational, time management, communication, and problem-solving skills; work with students, coaches, administrators, and health care professionals in a broad range of situations; the ability to initiate and complete projects with a high level of accuracy and meet specific deadlines.
- Experience working within electronic health records system(s).
- Drug-testing administration certification. Functional Movement Screen (FMS ) certification.
- Work experience that demonstrates genuine concern and interest for the welfare of student-athletes.

Serves as the primary athletic trainer and performs related administrative functions including, but not limited to the following: developing the sports medicine athletic program budget; developing program policies and procedures; providing leadership and management; ensuring compliance with applicable NCAA, conference, University, Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies. Ensure necessary athletic training coverage for practices, home events and team travel. Implement prevention, evaluate & provide treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Submit reports of athletic injuries Percent of Time: 20
Manage and supervise sports medicine staff (athletic trainers, graduate assistants, interns), including organizing staff roles and responsibilities and making team assignments. Supervision includes hiring, training, mentoring, setting unit and individual performance goals, completing annual performance reviews and other performance management duties, and day-to-day supervision. Percent of Time: 20
Educate coaches and student athletes about the risks inherent in sports participation; educate and serve as a reference in regard to nutritional supplements, drug testing and banned substances; keep up to date and educate on industry standards, best practices and proper protocols. Percent of Time: 10
Monitor all injury reports and rehabilitation plans and progress. Advise and consult with sports medicine staff, athletic administration, coaching staff and health care providers. Percent of Time: 10
Manage the partnership with external health care providers and ensure a proper process is in place for referrals, consultations and services. Percent of Time: 10
Oversight of and maintenance of athletic training facilities and equipment; management of equipment and supplies for the sports medicine facility; other duties as assigned by Senior Associate AD for Internal Operations. Percent of Time: 5
