    Job Description

    Under the supervision of a Provider (Physician, NP, PA, AHP), the Athletic Trainer works with people to prevent, diagnose, and treat injuries and illness working across a wide range of patients from children to professional/collegiate athletes. The athletic trainer evaluates and treats injuries to bone and muscle under the direction of the provider; referring to the provider when the injury is beyond their skill or knowledge or in consultation. Job duties include following the patient from the time of arrival to their time of departure and making sure all the patients’ needs are met to provide the best patient experience possible and to promote injury prevention or rehabilitation and recovery.

    Under administrative direction, responsible for assisting in the operation of athletic facilities, as well as the direct medical care of all student athletes, including aiding medical personnel with the prevention and treatment of athletic-related injuries incurred by student athletes. Sport assignment based on experience. Hours spent in sports medicine clinic will vary when assigned sport is in season.

    Will be working with UMKC Athletics and University Health CFM Sports Medicine.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology or Exercise Science

    • 2 Years of experience in athletic training is required; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

    • BOC Certification

    • Licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the state of Missouri

    • Must have demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and sports medicine standards of care, ability to apply NATA/BOC code of ethics to care, excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills, and a strong commitment to professional growth, demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment, and experience working in a comprehensive sports medicine environment.

    • BLS certification

    • Demonstrated core values of customer focus, teamwork, and professional communication.

    • Excellent communication skills, and ability to effective communicate with patients and all levels of clinic staff

    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evening and night time hours and weekends

    • Ability to work in fast-paced clinical office and Division I Athletics environments

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in an Orthopedic Clinic setting

    • Master’s degree in athletic training or related field.

    • Experience working with collegiate or elite-level athletes.

    • Knowledgeable about Evidence-Based Best Practice Guidelines as well as current trends in sports medicine

    • Certification or experience with manual therapy techniques.

    • Experience as a preceptor for a CAATE-Accredited Athletic Training Program.

    • CPR/AED Instructor Certification.
