Carson-Newman University invites applications for the position of Athletic Trainer within our NCAA Division II athletic department. We will have ONE full-time athletic trainer position available to start during the summer of 2023. Primary sport assignments will be with Football and secondary responsibility with our Spirit Squad programs. As an intentionally Christian academic community, Christian employees are hired to advance the mission of Carson-Newman as expressed in our strategic plan Acorns to Oaks. The selected athletic trainer will serve as the primary athletic trainer for assigned sport(s), including travel. The athletic trainer works under the direct supervision of the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Team Physicians. The athletic trainer will work in a dynamic sports medicine environment with 8 other athletic trainers, team physicians, strength & conditioning coaches, and a mental health counselor. Carson-Newman University has nearly 7,000 square feet of dedicated sports medicine clinic space in two facilities. Our athletic trainers are expected to provide comprehensive sports medicine services to assigned patient populations encompassing all domains of athletic training.
Specific responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
· Supervise the scheduling of pre-participation physical examinations & health appraisals
· Prevention, evaluation, treatment & rehabilitation of athletic injuries
· Provide healthcare for practices & competitions as designated
· Travel with designated team(s)
· Proper documentation of healthcare provided to patients
· Communicate the status of injured student-athletes to the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and appropriate coaches, act as a liaison between physicians, student-athletes, and coaches
· Communicate and coordinate, with appropriate coaches, current healthcare standards and implementation of medical policies, procedures, and protocols
· Maintain licensure as an athletic trainer in the state of Tennessee
· Maintain certification as an athletic trainer through the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers
· Assure that all applicable NCAA and South Atlantic Conference rules and regulations are followed as they apply to the sports medicine program
· Participate in departmental activities, including service on committees and attendance at all scheduled meetings
· Assist with other duties within the Sports Medicine Department as assigned
Qualifications:
· Master’s Degree REQUIRED
· Current certification as an athletic trainer through the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers
· Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice athletic training in the state of Tennessee (must be obtained PRIOR to starting employment).
· Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification
