JOB TITLE: Athletic Trainer
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY
The Athletic Trainer position reports to the Head Athletic Trainer and will ensure that the varsity student-athletes are safe by monitoring practice and games, evaluating injuries, and providing rehabilitation and treatment of injuries. In addition, this role will show athletes how to build their strength and avoid further injury. This is an important role that requires extensive student and coach interaction and the ability to confidently interact and engage with a diverse population.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Provide daily practice and game coverage for all varsity teams.
- Manage medical issues that arise with student-athletes and determine the proper treatment plan.
- Communicate with coaches and strength coaches regarding the treatment plans of their athletes.
- Refer student-athletes to the proper physician or medical professional on or off-campus for further evaluation of their mental health issues, injuries, and illnesses as appropriate.
- Communicate and coordinate with the physician regarding treatment plan and schedule to return to play.
- Manage health records and forms for student-athletes, documenting injury evaluations, treatments, and referrals and ensuring that every athlete has completed the clearance process before participating.
- Submit insurance claims and liaise as necessary with insurance companies.
- Manage inventory, working with vendors to order supplies, and coordinating with facilities for maintenance requests.
- Clean workspaces and items used by student-athletes.
- Coordinate per diem coverage for practices and games, finding certified athletic trainers to cover practice and games that regular staff is unable to attend.
- Serve as first responder as required.
- Perform administrative work as necessary.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.
- Master’s Degree in Athletic Training required
- 1-3 years of previous experience in athletic training required
- Certification by BOC in Athletic Training and as a Licensed Athletic Trainer by the Massachusetts Board of Allied Health required
- Certification in Emergency Cardiac Care Certification (CPR/AED) required
- Exceptional attention to detail required
