Description: Sentara Healthcare is seeking applicants for the Head Athletic Trainer position to lead our team at Hampton University. Hampton University is a NCAA Division I institution participating in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) conference. The Head Athletic Trainer will oversee their team of 10 athletic trainers. They are responsible for ensuring and advocating for the health and well-being of student-athletes, through proper injury prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. The Head Athletic Trainer will fulfill one sport assignment with Track & Field which will also have an assistant assigned for the Winter and Spring seasons. The Head Athletic Trainer will also serve as Senior Leadership with Hampton University Athletics and operate as a liaison for the entire sports medicine team. They will be responsible for budget management, coordination of care with physicians and other practitioners, maintenance of policies and emergency protocols, and compliance with NCAA and CAA. The Head Athletic Trainer will also serve as a supervisor for Sentara Healthcare and be responsible for leadership tasks to ensure employee compliance, performance reviews, annual regulatories. Those with leadership skills to include, but are not limited to, effective communication, problem solving & conflict resolution, organization, and continuous improvement will be successful in this role.
Our Sentara Sports Medicine Team has made incredible strides in our expansion over the past couple of years. We currently have approximately 40 athletic trainers on staff at this time, and with this growth, we have also been able to expand our support of each of our contract sites. Qualifications: Must have current BOC certification. Must be eligible for licensure in Virginia. Experience in management is preferred to include coordination/support of staff, budget management, etc. Availability to work regular days, mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays may be required.
