    Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer

    Position Type: Staff Full-Time

    Position Summary

    The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the administration of injury/illness prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation for student-athletes participating in the intercollegiate athletics program. In this role, they will enforce health care policies and procedures regarding medical insurance, complete physical examinations, and engage in related activities for student-athletes. The Assistant Athletic Trainer follows risk management processes and communicates with parents, coaches, health care professionals, administrators, faculty, staff, and student-athletes. The Assistant Athletic Trainer provides health care services specifically to designated sports and in general to all student athletes. This position will specifically work with the football, XC/Track and Field programs.

    Minimum Required Education and Experience

    Master's degree in Passing the national certification exam and eligibility for state licensure in

    Athletic Training with minimum of 1-2 years of experience with the following relevant work

    experience: At least 3 years of experience in athletic training at the intercollegiate level is strongly

    preferred. Athletic Training experience in an NCAA Division I level program is preferred. Must be NATA BOC certified and possess or be in the process of acquiring licensure from North Carolina.

    Job Duties

    Provide healthcare for assigned teams to student-athletes within the Elon Department of Athletics by attending competitions and practices, including traveling with teams to away competitions, through injury/illness prevention and immediate care, examination, assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention of all athletic related injuries. Rehabilitation of student-athletes athletic-related injuries to return to sport participation. This includes assessing the nature of their injuries (range of motion, strength, etc.) and making referrals to physicians as appropriate. Enforcing the prescribed treatment protocols of physicians and using all appropriate therapeutic modalities and exercises to evaluate rehabilitative progress.

    Administrative responsibilities for assigned sports teams including but not limited to; collection of insurance, demographic information, medical histories, sickle cell trait status and scheduling pre-participation physicals prior to the start of any athletic activity, documentation of athletic injuries and rehabilitation session, healthcare referrals including scheduling appointments with primary care, orthopedic team physicians or other healthcare provider, scheduling diagnostic images such as X-rays, MRI's, etc. when ordered by team physicians, communication on student-athletes participation and health status to athletic coaches, administrators, team physicians, academic support, strength and conditioning staff and parent(s) when appropriate.

    Administrative responsibility for the sports medicine department that may include; ordering supplies, recording inventory, maintaining primary care or orthopedic physician schedules, maintaining physical therapy schedule, assisting with Athletic Department communication with secondary insurance provider, updating assigned teams' athletic coaches and student athletes on NCAA recommendations on health and safety.

    Other duties as assigned by Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine include; maintaining individual professional competence and continuing education as required by North Carolina state licensure, the national Board of Certification and National Athletic Trainers Association through professional development workshops and related activities. Reading the literature published in professional journals and texts, assuring compliance with federal (HIPAA, FERPA), state, and NCAA guidelines, and sharing the information gathered from these professional activities with other staff professionals and student-athletes.
