    Assistant Athletic Trainer – Troy University

    Troy University is seeking candidates for newly created position of Assistant Athletic Trainer within the Department of Athletics  to join a staff of 9 full-time Athletic Trainers. Possible sport oversight to include softball, women’s basketball, track, or football, with additional minor sport oversight (no travel: golf, cheer, tennis possible). Sport assignments to be determined based on experience. Potential start date on or after December 1, 2024.


    Troy University is an NCAA Division I FBS institution in the Sun Belt Conference, located in Troy, AL. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the Sr. Associate Director of Athletics for Athletic Training and Team Physicians with the delivery of health care to student athletes of athletic programs operating from the athletic training facilities at Troy University. Ideal staff patient load is 1:40 AT to student-athletes, with team of physicians and clinicians providing culture of collaboration and growth. The position provides supervisory function in all phases of athletic training in the traditional college setting.

     Job Duties:

    • Provide athletic medicine services for team practices and competitions, travel required
    • Provide prevention, treatment and rehabilitation for injuries and illnesses sustained by student-athletes
    • Maintain medical records for all assigned student-athletes
    • Design and implement pre- and post-injury rehabilitation for the student-athletes
    • Assist in the daily management of the athletic training room, including maintenance and storage of supplies and equipment
    • Assist in organizing and administration of the athletic training facility
    • Provide computer records of athletic injuries, illnesses and their treatments
    • Assist with issues concerning insurance
    • Work effectively in a cohesive staff environment with high emotional intelligence, highly effective judgement, verbal and written communication skills
    • Participate in special projects initiated by the Team Physicians, Sr. Associate Director of Athletics for Athletic Training, or through own creativity and innovation
    • Ensure all assigned tasks follow University, Sun Belt Conference, NCAA rules, and applicable entities
    • Provide supervision of Masters Athletic Training students in CAATE-accredited Athletic Training Program and/or athletic training aides
    • Perform other duties as assigned by Associate Director of Athletics for Athletic Training

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree from a CAATE-accredited Athletic Training Program
    • Active BOC Certification, in good standing
    • Current Certification in CPR & AED and First Aid
    • Eligible for Athletic Training Licensure in state of Alabama
    • Post-graduate professional experience preferred
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one by the first day of employment, with good driving record
    • Criminal background check

    Salary: $44,000-$50,000, commensurate with experience; allowance for Continuing Education, Licensure, NATA Membership dues
