    Job Description:

    The Assistant Athletic Trainer (2 positions available) will provide quality comprehensive care for student-athletes through prevention, evaluation, care, and the treatment of injuries and illnesses and assist with injury rehabilitation. This includes the screening and referral of student athletes to team physicians when appropriate. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will be responsible for compiling and maintaining injury and treatment documentation for the Sports Medicine Department, assisting with the supervision and daily operation of the athletic training facilities, practice/game coverage, team travel and assist with the establishment, coordination, supervision, and monitoring athletic training services to all student-athletes.


    Mount St. Mary’s University seeks a candidate who can communicate with coaches and athletic department staff on a variety of issues, including but not limited to the Sports Medicine Department policies and procedures, student-athlete status, activity restrictions, and treatment/rehabilitation, appointment compliance and progress. This role will assist the staff in the upkeep of facilities, emergency equipment and modalities. Collaboration with other departments – Academic Services, Mental Health, Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, and the Equipment Room are key in providing comprehensive healthcare and a positive experience for the student-athlete.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Serve as the staff athletic trainer for teams assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
    • Provide quality and comprehensive care for ALL student-athletes through prevention, evaluation, care and treatment of injuries and illnesses and assist with injury rehabilitation.
    • Travel with assigned teams.
    • Compile and maintain injury and treatment documentation for the Sports Medicine Department including injury tracking and reporting.
    • Assist with the supervision of electronic medical records.
    • Assist the sports medicine staff with establishing, coordinating, supervising, and monitoring of athletic training services to ALL student-athletes.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.

    Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:

    • Master’s Degree in a health-related field is preferred.
    • Board of Certification Athletic Trainer with (1) plus years of experience working in collegiate athletics.
    • Maryland state Athletic Training Certification eligible by the start of employment.
    • CPR and First Aid Certified (BLS or equivalent)
    • Training in bloodborne pathogens.
    • Soft Tissue Mobilization certification (preferred).
